Training on Dance Research for Scholars of Addis Ababa University, May 16-18, 2024
On May 16-18, 2024, a training program was implemented through a collaboration between EDAA leadership, Addis Ababa University through the directorship of Professor Aboneh Ashagrie, and international consultant Professor Hui Wilcox (Macalester College). Topics presented on and discussed included theoretical frameworks on dance research, dance research methods, potential topics of research, and various models of dance and dance studies curriculum around the world. Participants also presented their own work related to dance.
The collaboration between EDAA and Addis Ababa University started in November 2023, when Melaku Belay, the President of EDAA was invited to join an AAU symposium about cultural development in Ethiopia. From December 2023 to May 2024, EDAA and AAU professor co-created a BA curriculum on Dance Studies, validated during this training session. This accomplishment set the ground for this curriculum to be presented to AAU authority to approve.

Ethiopian Dance Art Association’s inaugural national conference held on May 13-15, 2024
Leaders and dance artists in Addis Ababa were joined by delegations of dancers from Hawassa, Harer, Dirediwa and Bahidar to discuss how to raise awareness of dance’s contribution to Ethiopian society, and how to support each other’s work.
